A great post Ann, I am a walker myself starting to follow my step count some 5 years ago. I started out aiming for 10,000 but was not so consistent, so don't have any real data of other health results.
But at one point I decided to aim for 15,000 steps a day. I started doing that for just one month initially. But then end up continuing and am still walking that now. Initially I was like you I did not notice much change in my weight. However, over a period of six months I did end up losing 7kg.
I think what you will find is that if you are not use to walking and start you will initially transition some fat into muscle. This may account for the inches you lost. Since muscle is heavier than fat it can take a little longer to see the results on the scale, so don't give up just yet.
To lose the 7kg in six months I did the same as you and changed nothing but the increase in my walking. Another way I later on lost another 7kg was removing as much sugar from my diet as I could.
