Hi, my name is Joel and I have an addiction to mobile gaming. An addiction which has led to far to many wasted hours and opportunities.

In the beginning, the occasional mobile game was a good way to relax. At some point though there becomes a big difference between relaxing and delaying work.

Recently I have found that my addiction to mobile games is a common form of procrastination. One which I have found myself drifting towards far too often.

Why Mobile Games?

The primary group of mobile games that I seemed to drift toward was casual games.

Casual games may exhibit any type of gameplay and genre. They generally have simpler rules, shorter sessions, and less learned skill than hardcore games — Wikipedia

There tend to be three main factors that I think drive the addictiveness of these games.

  1. You learn the handful of tasks in the gameplay very quickly and repeat.
  2. Levels are quick to play with the few learned skills.
  3. Winning is often easy given some aptitude at the game.
