I did visit Berlin some years ago and was quite surprised to learn many details about the war and the ongoing events afterwards. Being born in the early 80's and learning about the war in school, I never truly connected that it was not until a number of years after I was born that the Berlin Wall came down.

Similarly, I remembered visiting the Reichstag when in Berlin and I had to look it up to confirm this is the same building I visited. Because the landscape around the building is so different now.

Ultimately, the only thing war achieves is to create history that most would prefer to forget.
