Revisiting My Childhood. On The Weekends

My Weekends as a child were varied. Trips to the shops, yard work and occasionally family friends over for lunch.

It can be quite amazing how some activities from childhood quickly become an everyday thing. While others get lost in the past, only to be revisited as a memory occasionally.

Heading Out To The Shops

Those trips to the shop were a treat I may not have appreciated enough. In the late 80s into early 90s, shopping was not quite the same as it is now. The shopping centres were smaller, there were not as many and by midday Saturday almost everything was closed until Monday morning.

I recall a story my mother shares that not everyone got to visit the shopping centres. One weekend, we took a friend from next door with us out to one of the bigger shopping centres. Even though we were both probably around 8–9 years old, he had never been to a shopping centre.

When you think about how central the shopping centre is to our lives now in Australia. If you live anywhere near a reasonable size city there is bound to be one if not more shopping centres nearby.
