I am not in the US, but your story is now the second one that I have read, with a similar theme. Graduated 10 years ago, and now owe more than when you started.

It is great that there is some financial help coming that might ease the burden a little. But I think the system needs an overhaul and maybe a requirement that interest must be lower than then the income driven payment. Just forgiving some of the debt is not a long term solution, it just makes things look better for most for the time being, but I suspect will not change the long term outcome for many.
