Thank you for sharing Pamela, this is an interesting topic to mr. I have so often read the idea of slipping yourself into one niche. But have always felt that this has the potential to do more harm then good.
I get why people say find a niche and stick to it. Because readers like to read what they are expecting to read. But there are very few if any people who have one all consuming interest with nothing else on the radar. The same can be said for readers, they have multiple interests, maybe not every story will be for them but many well happily read the occasional story on a different topic.
I saw a talk once that went into this a little, but mostly focus on the idea of multipotentiality. Basically the idea that some (if not all) people have multi areas of knowledge or interest.
I say just keep doing what you are doing, and form your own path.
