Thanks for sharing Geoffrey, I do agree with the premise of many of the points you make.
The platform has the writers and the stories it has to reach where it is now. The reality is that the person creating cannot control what the people reading want. The content that is at the top is there because it gets the most engagement. Yes the algorithm might play some role in that, but people can choose not to read what is recommended to them. They even have some control over their personal algorithm through removing pieces they have read or writers they don’t want to see.
Anything you try and force to the top has the potential to grow the platform in one way. But it also has the potential to destroy the platform. The platform must provide the majority of paying members what they are looking for or risk losing them. I agree many have left because of this exact reason. But I suspect many more have stayed because of what the platform is.
I for one would leave if there is any type of restriction put on the continent that can be published or as some suggested in the comments of Tony’s post demonetise any specific topic. If this is done to one topic, it is a short step to being done to other topics.
