Totally agree with all of your points, a couple of them I have made myself in a few of those response threads.

The reality is that if you ban one topic, it makes the road to a second or a third topic much easier to follow.

What I find funny is while they are calling for a ban on one topic, they often are also asking for more priority on something they write about. Such as asking for poetry or short form articles to be more promoted or easier to earn from. Numerous people much smarter in business than me have on many occasions re-enforced the statement "the market is the market". You can never change what people want to conform to what you want to give them, you need to give the market what the market wants.

But end of the day, if they start banning or demonetising topics, even if it is just the topic of "Medium" initially, it will be the start of the end for Medium.
